ENDOCRINE GLAND

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY (ENDO)

Endocrine gland releases hormones directly into the bloodstream for distribution throughout the body.

Exocrine gland releases product into ducts, onto the free surface of the skin, or open cavities of the body, such as the digestive, reproductive, or respiratory tracts for transport to a specific area. Exocrine glands don’t release products directly into the blood.

Pituitary gland is the pea-sized gland (hypophysis) is one of the most powerful glands in the body. It is known as the “master gland”. Think of it as the pharmacy for your body.

Anterior Pituitary: (Major hormones)

 Growth hormone (GH)

 Adrenocorticotropic (ACTH)

 Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)

 Gonadotropic (FSH & LH)

 Melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH)

 Prolactin (PRL)

Posterior Pituitary:

 Oxytocin (OT)

 •Antidiurectic hormone (ADH)
