Ascites is the accumulation of protein-containing (ascitic) fluid in the abdominal cavity. The abdominal cavity is located below the chest cavity, separated from it by the diaphragm. Ascites tends to occur in long-standing (chronic) rather than in short-lived (acute) disorders.
CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS OF ASCITES:
Increased abdominal Girth
Rapid weight gain
Loss of Appetite
Short of breath
Striae and distended vein over abdominal wall
Fluid and electrolytes imbalance
