ASCITES

Ascites is the accumulation of protein-containing (ascitic) fluid in the abdominal cavity. The abdominal cavity is located below the chest cavity, separated from it by the diaphragm. Ascites tends to occur in long-standing (chronic) rather than in short-lived (acute) disorders.

CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS OF ASCITES:

 Increased abdominal Girth

 Rapid weight gain

 Loss of Appetite

 Short of breath

 Striae and distended vein over abdominal wall

 Fluid and electrolytes imbalance
