VAGUS - Cranial Nerve

X. Vagus



Function: Muscle of the pharynx, larynx and soft palate, sensation in external ear, pharynx, larynx, thoracic and abdominal viscera, and parasympathetic innervation of thoracic and abdominal organs.
Location: Medulla
Test it with the same procedure as stated in Cranial Nerve IX. Patient sticks out tongue and instruct to say “Ah”, movement of soft palate and uvula should be symmetrical. Stimulate gag reflex and gagging occurs.
